India have declared their innings at 564/8 in the second session on Day 2 of the one-off Test against Afghanistan. For India, Shubman Gill scored 126, while KL Rahul scored 101. Apart from them, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar also scored 81, 81, and 52* respectively. For Afghanistan, Saleem Safi took six wickets. FIFTY!!! Washington Sundar hits a maximum and a boundary on Saleem Safi and completes his half-century in style. He takes 65 balls to reach his half-century. Brilliant batting from the all-rounder.

FOUR!!! Kuldeep Yadav hits a boundary on Saleem Safi. Full pitcher outside off, Kuldeep opens the bat face and drives behind the square. With this shot, India also complete 550 runs at a loss of eight wickets. Can they cross the 600-run mark? Only time will tell.

OUT!!! Saleem Safi strikes again and this time, he dismisses the dangerous Mohammed Siraj for 22. After getting hit for a boundary, Safi makes a good comeback with a reverse swing delivery. Siraj misses the shot as the ball hits and destroys the middle stump. What a delivery from Saleem as he gets his sixth wicket of the innings.

WOAH!!! Mohammed Siraj takes the fiery route and unleashes his wrath on Nangeyalia Kharote. In the previous over, Siraj hit a maximum and two back-to-back boundaries as Kharote conceded 14 runs. With this, Siraj has got 18 runs, registering his highest score in Test cricket. Terrific stuff from the fast bowler.

OUT!!! Saleem Safi has done it as he gets his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket and Manav Suthar departs for 28. Trying to go for a drive, Suthar ends up bringing his outside edge to the ball, before wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai completes a simple catch. With this wicket. Safi completes his fifer and prays to God for this achievement.

After leaking too many runs in the last few overs, Afghanistan made a good comeback and controlled the flow of runs. Washington Sundar and Manav Suthar are also not taking any risks and slowly rotating the strike after crossing the 500-run mark.

500 up for India!!!! Manav Suthar is playing a fearless knock as he once again goes for a big hit. Again, Hashmatullah Shahidi faces the heat and gets hit for a maximum. With this, India also cross the 500-run mark, adding to Afghanistan's troubles. The partnership between Suthar and Washington Sundar is giving the late momentum to India.

SIX!!!! Debutant Manav Suthar hits a massive six on Hashmatullah Shahidi's delivery. Replicating Rishabh Pant, Suthar also steps out of the crease and launches it right over the bowler's head for the first six of his Test career. Terrific shot as India have made the intentions clear in the second session.

Washington Sundar and Manav Suthar are back in the middle after the lunch break. It's time for the second session of the day to begin. India would be keen to cross the 500-mark hurdle quickly. 

This marks the end of play of Day 2 of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan. At Lunch, India's score read 475/6 in 110 overs. For India, Washington Sundar () and Manav Suthar () are standing unbeaten. In the first session, the hosts lost three wickets in the form of Shubman Gill (126), Rishabh Pant (81), and Dhruv Jurel (19). Saleem Safi has taken four wickets so far and would be eager to bowl out India at the earliest. 

OUT!!! Afghanistan are bouncing back and this time, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi strikes and dismisses Rishabh Pant for 81. Desperate for a big hit, Pant hammers it hard but fails to time the shot. As a result, the ball lands into the hands of Azmatullah Omarzai at the deep mid-off. This recklessness costed Pant his century. Sixth wicket gone for India.

OUT!!! What a brilliant delivery from Saleem Safi as he dismissed Dhruv Jurel for 19. A brilliant delivery. It pitched just outside off stump, and Jurel thought it would go past, so he left it. But the ball came back in sharply, surprised him, and hit the top of the off stump. The bowler also initially thought he had missed, but once he saw the stumps go, his wild celebration said it all. Fifth wicket gone for India.

IND 452/5 (101.5 overs)

Rishabh Pant's laziness almost costed India another wicket. After playing a shot on Zia Ur Rehman's ball, Pant ran for a single but lazily went towards the non-striker's end. Wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai saw Pant lazing around and threw it towards the non-striker's end, making a direct-hit. However, Pant had already reached the crease at that time and was saved by a second. Seeing this, the commentator stated, "If Pant would have got run out like this, then Rohit Sharma would have sent it him a text, saying 'Don't roam around in a garden.'"

Despite the dismissal of Shubman Gill, India are still holding the momentum as Dhruv Jurel joins hands with Rishabh Pant. Jurel is playing a fiery innings and dealing in boundaries. In the previous over, he hit one boundary on Saleem Safi as the pacer conceded seven runs. India are nearing the 500-run mark.

OUT!!! Finally a relief for Afghanistan as Saleem Safi dismissed Shubman Gill for 126. A short ball outside off, Gill tries to play it through the off-side with a firm shot. He gets a thick outside edge, and wicketkeeper Zazai takes an easy catch behind the stumps. A big wicket for Afghanistan and India go four down.

FOUR!!! Shubman Gill also changes gear and takes on Saleem Safi. In the previous over of the pacer, Gill hits two boundaries as Safi conceded 9 runs. The first boundary came after the ball raced through the mid-off and crossed the roped. The second one came after Gill rolled his wrists over to pull backward of square.

400 up for India!!! Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are going all guns blazing and comfortably dealing in boundaries. The duo is making Afghanistan pay for their mistakes. The visitors need to get a wicket, in order to bounce back into the game.

Oh No!!! Just can't believe what's Afghanistan are up to now. Another blunder within a span of just one over. After Afghanistan gave a lifeline to Shubman Gill by not reviewing the LBW, this time they gave a life to Rishabh Pant by not appealing for caught behind. The replay of the 90th over showed that Zia Ur Rehman's delivery had touched the edge of Pant's bat before wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai took a catch. However, they did not go for a DRS and Pant survived. 

IND 389/3 (91 overs)

Rishabh Pant starts playing his natural game now. This time, he took on Zai Ur Rehman and hammered a boundary. Later, another boundary came in the same over through leg bye as the pacer conceded 10 runs. India are becoming deadlier with every passing over. Afghanistan need a wicket at the earliest.

What's wrong with Afghanistan? They just repeated the mistakes of Day 1 and gave Shubman Gill a new lifeline. Azmatullah Omarzai trapped Gill as his delivery hit him on the pads. Afghanistan appealed for LBW but the on-field umpire signalled not out. With just one DRS remaining, Hashmatullah Shahidi refused to go for a review. However, the replay then showed that the ball had hit only the pads and was actually hitting the stumps. If the visitors would have gone for the DRS, Gill was dismissed.

FOUR!!! Rishabh Pant hits a terrific boundary on Azmatullah Omarzai. Pant gives himself some room and then brilliantly finds the gap as the ball races across the boundary line for a four. As Pant hits the boundary, Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi quickly changes the strategy and calls for the second new ball. Will this move work for the visitors? only time will tell.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant refused to take a risk in the first over as India are off to a cautious start on Day 2. In the first over of the day by Zia Ur Rehman, the duo scored three runs. They will be aiming for some boundaries in the upcoming overs, in order to maintain the momentum.

The Day 2 of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan finally begins. For India, Shubman Gill (103*) and Rishabh Pant (50*) have resumed the proceedings from 368/3. On the other hand, Zia Ur Rehman will be bowling the first over for Afghanistan. The visitors badly need a breakthrough in the early hours of the game today. 

"Yeah, I'm really happy that I could get some time in the middle and make that switch from T20 to Test cricket in a couple of days' time. And yeah, that was the most pleasing thing. But yeah, really hot, so there wasn't much time for me to feel happy or satisfied with the way I batted. I was just exhausted by the end of it. (Was the ball coming on in the first session?) No, it wasn't coming on at all. It was a really slow and low sort of wicket, which we, we did expect a few days of training here and even at the back. It was pretty similar to this," said KL Rahul after play on Day 1. 

"I mean, it gives so much freedom. It gives so much certainty mentally that when the coach, the team, and the captain support you, back you, and want you to do well for the country. They want you to do well for the team and win games. It is such an honour at (the) first place," Sudharsan said at the day-end press conference.

"Obviously, it gives a lot of freedom for you to express yourself and do what you can do at your best, rather than thinking about "will I play the next game or not?" or whatever thought of that sort. That never arises because you've got great freedom from the team. I think it's a pleasure," he added.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir's vote of confidence has given young Sai Sudharsan freedom to express himself, something that comes with a lot of mental assurance. On the eve of the one-off Test against Afghanistan, Gambhir made it clear that the Tamil Nadu left-hander would get a long rope as six games aren't enough to judge someone's talent while trying to build a team.

"I think when you make your debut in India against India. It's a place to come and learn, isn't it? Coming out of Afghanistan's first class cricket, and then you're bowling against the best players in the world. And he (Kharote) got benchmarked today, showing exactly the type of control and consistency which he needs. It was a lot of pressure on him," said Afghanistan head coach Richard Pybus. 

As players who have grown up playing first-class cricket in Afghanistan, it was a learning experience for debutant left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote and senior offie Abdul Malik after they were treated with utter disdain by the star-studded Indian batting line-up in the one-off Test. Kharote (19 overs) and Malik (6 overs) together bowled 25 overs and collectively gave away 131 runs at more than five runs per over without a single wicket to show for their efforts.

After a horrific outing with the ball on Day 1, Afghanistan bowlers will be looking to redeem themselves on the second day of the one-off Test. However, the task won't be an easy one as they are up against Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, who are in a terrific form. The visitors would be eager to strike in the first session, in order to release some pressure. 

Skipper Shubman Gill and KL Rahul struck smooth hundreds as India posted a strong 368/3 at stumps on Day 1 of the one-off Test against Afghanistan. Gill was batting on 103 at close along with Rishabh Pant (50 batting). Pant and Gill have so far added 121 runs for the fourth wicket. It was Gill's 11th hundred in Tests. Rahul completed his 12th hundred in Test cricket before getting out soon after.
