Welcome back for the chase. The two umpires make their way out to the centre as do the Aussies dispersing from the huddle. It will be the left-hand right-hand combination of Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd to open the innings for the Netherlands. Mitchell Starc is at the top of his mark and he will start proceedings with the new ball for Australia. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, Australia have been powered to a grand total thanks to centuries from Glenn Maxwell and David Warner. They would want to bowl the Netherlands out cheaply to boost their net run rate significantly. Join us in a bit to see how the Dutch chase unfolds.
The man of the moment, Glenn Maxwell is in for a chat. He says that it feels great to bat like that and this brings a lot of confidence in him for the rest of the tournament. He adds that the wicket is really good to bat on under the lights and the ball comes on to the bat more. He finally says that it is a par score for any team to chase and they will look to take wickets with the new ball and restrict the Netherlands to the minimum for a better run rate.
As far as the Netherlands are concerned, they did not do much wrong except that they had to bowl to a certain Glenn Maxwell. Scott Edwards opted to start with spin from both ends and that move did not seem to work out. It was pace that did the trick for the Dutch as Logan van Beek struck in his first over. They will rue the missed run out opportunity by Max O'Dowd which gave life to David Warner early on in his innings. In the middle phase, the bowlers did a decent job of keeping the runs in check and the bowlers were well complemented by the fielders. Having got wickets in quick succession before the start of the last 10 overs, Netherlands would have hoped to finish strongly with the ball. Once Glenn Maxwell started doing Glenn Maxwell things, the Dutch bowers did not stand a chance as they were put off their lines and lengths and stood no chance against him.
Wow, that was a Big Show, quite literally! Glenn Maxwell has done what he does best and by doing so, he has helped Australia get to a humongous total. After Pat Cummins opted to bat first, David Warner got himself going with a flurry of boundaries, but his opening partner, Mitchell Marsh, perished early. Coming in at number 3, Steven Smith was quick to get off the blocks, and both batters did not miss out on punishing loose deliveries. Smith got out on 71, but Warner, having gotten a life on 32, made sure to make the Netherlands pay for it. He was starved of strike when he was in his 90s, but it did not hamper his momentum as he brought up yet another World Cup hundred. From 244-2, Australia slipped to 290-6 and it looked like they would lose their way. It wasn't to be as Glenn Maxwell put on an absolute clinic with his onslaught against the Dutch bowlers. Whether it was the conventional hitting or the unorthodox shots, Maxwell did not miss a beat on his way to the fastest ever ODI World Cup hundred off just 40 balls.
FOUR! Short ball at the skipper Pat Cummins who ready the length early and pulls the ball between deep mid-wicket and long on for a boundary to end the innings. Australia score 399/8 in 50 overs and have set a mammoth target of 400 for the Netherlands when they come out to chase.
WIDE! Loses his radar as he bowls this way outside off. Left alone by Pat Cummins for a wide.
No hat-trick for Logan van Beek! Nails the yorker, at the toes, Adam Zampa makes room and digs it out to mid-wicket for a single.
Adam Zampa is the next batter in.
OUT! CAUGHT! That's 2 in 2 for Logan van Beek and this time it is Mitchell Starc who gets out trying to play a big shot over long on to a slower ball on the leg stump line and in the end, he mistimes it straight to Colin Ackermann inside the ring at mid-wicket. Logan van Beek on a Hattrick.
Mitchell Starc comes out to bat.
OUT! CAUGHT! The carnage finally comes to an end for the Netherlands as it is Glenn Maxwell who gets out after bringing out a storm here in Delhi. 107 off just 44 balls. Logan van Beek pitches it up outside the off stump and Glenn Maxwell launches it up into the night sky, straight down the ground. Sybrand Engelbrecht, at long on, moves across to his left to take a tumbling catch near the fence and ends a magnificent innings for the Australian team. A quick check from the onfield umpires upstairs and the replays confirm that it's a clean catch.
On a yorker length, wide outside off, Glenn Maxwell drills the drive to deep cover and refuses the single.
FOUR! Everything going Australia's way! Full and outside off, Glenn Maxwell goes tries the reverse paddle but gets this one off the back part of the bat and the ball races past short third man for a boundary.
Shortish delivery, at the batter, Pat Cummins tries to help it away but misses out as he cannot get it away.
Back of a length, outside off, Glenn Maxwell swings hard to pull it away but gets an under edge as the ball rolls to short third man.
HUNDRED FOR GLENN MAXWELL! Absolute carnage in Delhi by the Big Show and he is thrilled to bits. Bas de Leede tries to go full but misses his length again as he serves a beamer at the batter, Glenn Maxwell gets hurried but still manages to heave it away and deposits it over deep backward square leg for a maximum. He removes his helmet and lets out a roar. This is the fastest hundred in ODI World Cups off just 40 balls.
SIX! Glenn Maxwell on 95 now in 39 balls. This is something sensational that we are experiencing in Delhi. Bas de Leede has no reply again, hits the short ball at the batter and Glenn Maxwell pulls it away high in the night sky to take it long behind deep square leg for a massive six again. 20 runs already of the over so far.
SIX! Glenn Maxwell does not have a stop button and is creating a rampage here in Delhi. Bas de Leede hits the good length and Glenn Maxwell heaves it over deep mid-wicket for another massive six.
