Railways, Uttar Pradesh and Air India, among others, started their campaigns on the opening day of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men's National Championship on a winning note in Pune on Tuesday.
Also posting wins at the Shiv Chattrapati sports complex and Major Dhyan Chand Hockey stadium were Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Hockey Bhopal.
Sanjay Bir and B Horo scored five goals each as Railways thrashed Jammu & Kashmir 20-1 in their Pool F league match.
Railways scored through Sanjay Bir (2, 56, 63, 66, 68 min), Jagandeep Singh (9 min), B Horo (11, 17, 40, 43, 61 min, Jasjeet Singh (19, 26, 44min), Gurpreet Singh (27 min), Niyaz Rahim (34 min), Ram Prakash (35 min), Irshad Mirza (59 min) and Vinod Kumar Singh (67, 69min) while Sikander Pal Singh (12 min) scored the only goal for Jammu & Kashmir.
In the other game in Pool F, Hockey Bhopal defeated Sashastra Seema Bal 12-5. Hockey Bhopal scored through Irfan Ali (1, 38min), Mayank Jemef (6, 36min), Shadab Khan (10, 48min), Neubeem Rehman (31, 69min), Osaf UR-Rehman (33min), Azam Baig (55min) and Imran Yusuf (62,65min) while Gunamuni Singh (7, 63min), Romi Kumar Singh (11min), Surchanrda Singh (18min) and Kanta Singh (54min) scored for Sashastra Seema Bal.
Chandigarh defeated Rajasthan 18-0 in their Pool H league match. Harmanpreet scored seven goals for Chandigarh.
In the other match in Pool D, Uttar Pradesh beat Mumbai Hockey Association Limited 2-1. Laxmishankar Yadav (19 min) and Imran Khan (29 min) scored for Uttar Pradesh while Tyran Pereira scored the only goal for the Mumbai Hockey Association Limited.
Air India defeated Puducherry 11-2 while Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat Tripura 16-1.
