About Ignace Tirkey:
Ignace Tirkey is a formidable pillar who keeps a close look at the defensive position to thump out any challenge. Subedar in the Indian Army, Ignace made his debut for the national team in 2001 and has since been a strong force for India.
He was part of the team that went to the Athens Olympics in 2004. This is a clear indication that this player from Madras is not new to the biggest stage that a sportsperson can set foot on in his career. While defending is his main strength, Tirkey also has struck some unbelievable goals. An example of this was his skillful goal against Pakistan in the 2003 edition of Asia Cup. He took the ball between the legs of Sohail Abbas and thumped it into the goal.
While his younger brother - Prabodh - has also played for India, Ignace has his own share of awards - Padma Shree (2010), Arjuna Award (2009) and Eklavya Puruskar.
