India goes down to Spain in the last warm-up before Olympics

India went down 1-2 to host Spain in the final league match of the Tri-Nation invitational tournament, the team's final warm-up event ahead of the Olympic Games, here late on Wednesday.

According to a Hockey India release, India began well and thwarted the home team several times in the first half. In the most noticeable of successes, goalkeeper PR Sreejesh pulled off a two-stage save, sweeping the ball off the goal-line after having initially parried a David Alegre hit.

Half-time saw the teams enter the tunnels at 0-0. Spain then took advantage of Sardar Singh's injury who was off the field for nearly 20 minutes. David Alegre scored from a penalty corner to give Spain the lead in the 42nd minute.

Miquel Delas then netted Spain's second penalty corner goal in the 61st minute. India did make a come back of sorts in the 64th minute with the penalty corner converted by VR Raghunath. Great Britain was declared the winner of the tournament with two victories while Spain were the runner-ups.

The Indian team will leave Spain for the Olympic Games in London on Friday.
