New Delhi:

Softening its stand, the International Hockey Federation said India will remain the host for next month's World Cup despite the delay in Hockey India polls.

"World Cup stats in India and is on track for New Delhi despite election delay," said the federation.

The federation also said it regretted the delay in the elections.

Hockey India polls, scheduled for February 7, was deferred after a stay order from Rajasthan High Court. This had put a question mark on India's hosting  rights.

Earlier, the FIH had said that democratically elected body has to be in place or the the mega event, which is scheduled for February 28-March 13, would be shifted out of India. It later said World Cup would be held in India, but the hosts would be barred from playing in it unless election is held.
