He's back! After all the- will he, will he not play, the biggest talking point of the 2015 Augusta Masters has been the return of Tiger Woods to competitive golf. With not a single top 10 finish under his belt last season and another injury plagued year- Tiger Woods ends his two-month leave of absence from competitive golf at the Masters. In fact Woods admitted, "I've worked my a** off. It was sun up to sun down"
In fact the viewership figures were all set to fall as much as 40% had Tiger Woods not confirmed his participation but no worries now! However, there is reason to worry for the rest of the playing field as they feel you can never count out Tiger Woods! As 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott put it "Anything is possible, it's Tiger Woods"
The Big question remains.....Will Tiger actually play or merely participate?
Make in India!
The one golfer every Indian golf fan will be staying up late to watch is 27-year old Anirban Lahiri. The Bangalore golfer got an invite to the year's 1st Major by virtue of being in the World's top 50 in golf. That's thanks to a phenomenal year on the greens with 2 European and 2 Asian Tour wins. World No.34 Anirban is only the 3rd Indian to play in the Masters after Jeev Milkha Singh and Arjun Atwal.
He spoke to NDTV about his excitement ahead of the Major saying," It's like a myth, it is like a legend. Like you about the Ramayan and Mahabharat. You know you have these images in your head. And I think the masters is something like that. So, to experience it, is going to be truly phenomenal."
Will Rory Roar?
With 2 back to back wins in the last 2 Majors, Rory McIlroy deserves to be the favourite this week. And the World No.1 is aiming to make history of sorts- to become the 1st since Tiger to not only win 3 Majors in a row but also to complete a career slam of golf i.e. be a champion of all 4 majors.
However, Rory's Masters record hasn't been all that impressive- in 6 starts, his best finish was 8th, last year. What's more, there will be some demons to fight especially memories of 2011 when Rory threw away a 4-shot lead in the final round with a forgettable round of golf.
But Rory today is very different from the Rory then!
Team Tiger Woods
With lady luck by his side and his 2 lucky charms too....Not only Tiger Woods but Team Tiger Woods will be in full action at the Augusta Masters. While his 2 children Sam and Charlie caddied for him at the Par 3 tournament, Girlfriend and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn is also at Augusta National to support the 4-time Masters Champion through this big week.
