China's Zheng Jie was eliminated in straight sets at the French Open on Wednesday, leaving her compatriots Li Na and Peng Shuai to carry on the Asian campaign in women's singles at Roland Garros.
Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak, ranked 58, overcame a rash of double-faults to beat 31st seed Zheng 6-2, 6-4 for the right to face top seed Victoria Azarenka in the third round.
After being broken twice in the first set, Zheng went on the offensive in the second and served to 4-4 following treatment for a foot blister.
But the Canadian held serve and Zheng quickly gave Wozniak three break points, finally surrendering the match with a forehand return that went long.
Defending champion Li, currently world number seven, will next face Stephanie Foretz Gacon of France.
Peng, the world number 30, will face Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain for a place in the final 32.
