Montoya, Alonso fastest in opening practice

Juan Pablo Montoya and Fernando Alonso were fastest in Thursday's opening free practice sessions for Sunday's Monaco Formula One Grand Prix. Montoya won here in 2003. Last year, the Colombian was involved in a crash with Michael Schumacher. The McLaren man was fastest in the first session - clocking a best of one minute, 17.152 seconds, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Christian Klien. The current championship leader, Alonso came out on top by the end of the day. The Renault man took full advantage of a track that, warmed by the sun, gathered considerable pace over the day. A time of one minute, 15.835 seconds was the best of the second session - the impressive Alexander Wurz the only other man to break the one minute, 16-second mark. (AP)
