Mumbai: The Formula One Powerboat Championships concluded in Mumbai today and it was a great day for the Italians. Both the winner and the runner up of the Mumbai Grand Prix were from Italy with just six seconds separating them. "It was a hard race very rough it was not easy, it was very fast and with Guido we did it without much problem. It was hard but we did it," said winner Cantando Francesco.Twenty three racers from twelve countries participated and the 60-lap race pulled some surprises. The current F-1 Champion who had always won the first race of the season finished second."I prefer not to take a big risk because my boat is 30 cm shorter than the boat which won. I prefer to wait and got to the podium and the second position," said runner-up Guido Cappellini. This is the first time that India has hosted an F-1 Powerboat event and thousands of spectators came to watch the raw speed on water. The race boats have powerful engines and no brakes and gearbox. Floating pavillions were constructed around the racing circuit to allow Mumbaikars to get a different view. For the motorboat racers, the biggest challenge was to adapt to the conditions, as this was the first time they were testing Mumbai waters. And to do well in the Mumbai Grand Prix was important to each one of them as this was the first race in the Formula one powerboat championships. The next race will be in Saudi Arabia later this month.
