West Brom's Tamas charged with violent conduct

West Brom's Romanian defender Gabriel Tamas was on Monday was charged with violent conduct following an incident in Sunday's 1-0 Premier League win at Norwich.

The 27-year-old finds himself in the Football Association dock after clashing with Norwich's James Vaughan in stoppage time at Carrow Road.

Tamas floored Vaughan with an elbow to the face at a corner leaving the Norwich player requiring hospital treatment.

Tamas was given until Tuesday to respond to the charge, which carries an automatic three-match ban if accepted.

Norwich boss Paul Lambert said after the match: "James has gone to see the plastic surgeon. It's a bad one. It has gone straight through the lip and they can't just stitch it up."

Former Everton striker Vaughan later wrote on Twitter: "Back home! plastic surgeon sorted me out! think i will have 2 bite my lip over the 'incident' o wait already done that!"

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson defended Tamas, saying he was "100 percent convinced it is unintentional".

He added: "It does not make it any better for Vaughan whether you have got caught intentionally or accidentally - it is still a painful blow."

West Brom confirmed they would make a decision Tuesday over whether to accept or contest the charge.
