Madrid:
Valencia, Athletic de Bilbao and Malaga were upset by lower-league teams on Wednesday in the second-round of the Copa del Rey, while powerhouse Real Madrid advanced to the last 16 of the competition.
Valencia went out 5-4 on penalties at third-division Alicante after the match had ended 3-3 after 120 minutes.
Bilbao went down 2-1 at third-division Real Union, the conqueror of first-division Racing de Santander in the previous round.
Bilbao's defeat adds to the pressure on its beleaguered German coach Jupp Heynckes, whose team has only won twice in the first division this season.
Malaga lost 2-0 to second-division Xerez through two goals by midfielder Francisco Cachorro in the final six minutes.
Meanwhile, Madrid, fielding virtually a reserve team, cruised to a 4-0 victory at second-division Oviedo. Strikers Javier Portillo and Jorge "Tote" Lopez each netted twice for last season's losing finalist.
Madrid's victory was its first in seven matches.
Joining Madrid, Alicante, Real Union and Xerez in the third-round were Real Betis, Valladolid, Atletico de Madrid, Alaves, Osasuna, Sevilla, Recreativo de Huelva and second-division Murcia. (AP)
