Sporting Clube de Goa were held to a goalless draw by newcomers DSK Shivajians F.C. in an I-League football clash at the Fatorda stadium on Sunday. (East Bengal F.C. Hold Mumbai F.C. to Goalless Draw in I-League)
Sporting coach Mateus Costa fielded Rowllin Borges and Glan Martins in place of Cajetan Fernandes and Mauvin Borges in the starting eleven.
Shivajians coach Derrick Pereira named Subrata Paul in goal and Haroon Amiri as his leader in defence. (Royal Wahingdoh Pull out of I-League, Third Club to do so This Year)
Paul was pressed into action in the 10th minute when Sporting's Nigerian striker Odafa Okolie tested him from distance with a strong shot.
Both teams lacked attacking intensity and incisiveness in the first half.
Paul made another good save in the 28th minute when Nicholas Fernandes played Mahmoud al Amna through. But his shot was again well blocked by Paul.
After the break, Shivajians came out stronger with Indrajit Chougale attempting an audacious volley that was blocked by Sporting's goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.
Indrajit was again in the thick of things in the 56th minute but his weak shot this time posed no trouble for Sporting.
Borges got his first opportunity of the second half in the 59th minute but he could only manage a weak attempt at goal after being set up by Odafa.
Indrajeet continued to be a threat for Sporting as minutes later his stinging shot needed a diving stop from Arindam that kept the scoreline goalless.
Chances fell to both teams after that but none were able to capitalise on them adding to the frustration of both teams.
Both teams got their first points of the campaign. Sporting now have a point after two matches while debutants Shivajians got off the mark in their first match.
