Paraguay trounces in World Cup
Christian Riveros scored twice as Paraguay thrashed Ecuador 5-1 in World Cup qualifying on Saturday.

Asuncion, Paraguay:
Nelson Haedo Valdez, Rogue Santa Cruz and Nestor Ayala also found the net at Defensores del Chaco stadium to keep Paraguay in the race for a 2010 World Cup berth in South Africa.
Haedo Valdez scored first off a corner kick in the 9th minute, heading the ball into the net from close range.
Riveros took advantage of another corner kick in the 26th to smash a right footer into the back of the net.
Santa Cruz made it 3-0 in the 50th minute with a cross from the right side, Ayala got the fourth goal in the 83rd minute and Riveros raced down field and smashed a loose ball into the net for the fifth Paraguayan goal.
Ecuador found a face-saving goal from Ivan Kaviedes in the 80th minute, taking advantage of a momentary lapse in the Paraguayan defense.
Uruguay plays Chile, while Peru meets Brazil in qualifying on Sunday.
So far in the round, Argentina leads the South American standings with nine points after a 3-0 drubbing of Bolivia at home Saturday. Paraguay has seven points, followed by Colombia with five.
Uruguay, Chile and Venezuela all have three points and Peru and Bolivia are on one each. Ecuador has so far failed to earn a point.
