Lionel Messi Reaches New Deal With Barcelona

Four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi has signed a new deal with Barcelona and will play with the Spanish season through the 2017-18 season. The new deal will fetch him $27 million annually plus further performance-backed incentives.

Barcelona says it has reached a deal with Lionel Messi to improve the Argentina international's current contract.

Barcelona says it has "reached an agreement to adjust the terms in the contract binding Leo Messi to the club." The team did not release details of the improved deal that will be signed by Messi in the coming days.

The 26-year-old Messi is currently signed to play for the Spanish champions through the 2017-18 season. Spanish media reported the improved deal would see Messi net $27 million annually, plus further performance-backed incentives.

Messi has scored 354 goals at Barcelona, including five straight seasons of at least 40. Barcelona plays Atletico Madrid for the Spanish league title on Saturday.
