Leonardo denies Serie A in decline

Inter Milan coach Leonardo took a swipe on Friday at those who questioned the standard of Serie A after defeats for Italian clubs in the Champions League this week.

Inter Milan coach Leonardo took a swipe on Friday at those who questioned the standard of Serie A after defeats for Italian clubs in the Champions League this week.

"It upsets me, because I'm starting to hear that 'Inter are finished...despite being the reigning champions!"

The Italian press have gone to town on the decline of the Italian league after AC Milan went down 1-0 to Tottenham on Tuesday in Milan and AS Roma's 3-2 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk 24 hours later.

Leonardo however did suggest Italian football has lacked for years a global project to help the clubs and league prosper.

"I see football like this - you need to develop, that's what makes people excited about football. Everyone says it - Arsenal and Barcelona are brilliant - Why? We should place values on every situation of the game here as well, and not stop just at goals scored and conceded."
