Klose, Gomez battling for Bayern berth

Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal faces a selection headache for Saturday's game with Hoffenheim as both the Bundesliga's top-scorer Mario Gomez and Germany hot-shot Miroslav Klose are eager to start.

Bayern need to get their title aspirations back on track with a win at Munich's Allianz Arena after last weekend's shock 3-2 defeat at strugglers Cologne, when they threw away a 2-0 lead.

The defending champions are fifth in the table and 15 points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund with 13 matches left.

Veteran Klose scored his 59th goal in his 106th appearance for Germany in Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Italy, but faces another game on the bench for Bayern behind Gomez, who has scored 16 league goals in 19 games this season.

A leg injury ruled Gomez out of Wednesday's international friendly, but he has recovered and is in contention to face Hoffenheim.

Klose, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and has made no secret of his abmitions: "I want to be first-choice at Bayern again".

After picking up a knee injury against Cologne, Gomez trained again on Wednesday while winger Arjen Robben rejoined squad training after a week laid low with the 'flu.

Dortmund are at strugglers Kaiserslautern on Saturday and with their hosts slowly slipping into the relegation battle, Borussia are cruising towards their first German league title since 2002.

Five of the team were in the Germany squad which drew with Italy and teenage wunderkind Mario Goetze came off the bench for only his second cap.

With 51 points from a possible 63, Dortmund are chasing their 17th win of the season.

Second-placed Bayer Leverkusen are at Eintracht Frankfurt and face a tricky tie against the mid-table side who are one of the few to beat Dortmund this season.

Leverkusen are waiting on the fitness of Simon Rolfes (calf injury), Arturo Vidal (bruising), while ex-Germany captain Michael Ballack is expected to make his fourth appearance since returning from injury.

After sacking ex-England manager Steve McClaren on Monday, 2009 champions Wolfsburg are home to Hamburg and although 12th in the table, are just one point from the relegation zone.

McClaren survived just seven months in charge and his replacement Pierre Littbarski badly needs to start his tenure with a home win.

With just five wins all season, Wolves have won just one of their last ten games and last week's 1-0 home defeat by Hanover was the final nail in McClaren's coffin.
