East Bengal came back from behind to breeze past Mumbai FC 3-1 at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Friday to move to 41 points in the I-League table while Mumbai stay on 17 points.
Mumbai FC scored first in the 5th minute when Nicholas Rodrigues blasted home a fierce shot from just inside the box.
But the Red and Gold were quick to bounce back. In the 22nd minute, Tolgay was brought down in the box by Mumbai FC defender Lobo. He stepped up and converted the resulting spot kick to level the score.
It took just 3 minutes more for East Bengal to surge into the lead. This time, Robin Singh trapped a Baljit Sahni pass and put it past the rival goalkeeper.
The second half started with both teams creating some chances to score. But East Bengal had the last laugh as it was substitute striker Edmilson Marques who completed the comeback in the 87th minute.
