With two games in hand, Bengaluru FC are just three points away from lifting their maiden I-League title. Ashley Westwood's side are currently on 41 points, and mathematically, three more points will hand them the coveted trophy.
Goa outfit Salgaocar FC and Kolkata giants East Bengal have come close to challenging for a place at the top of the table, but it all seems like an uphill task for them as of now.
That is all the more because East Bengal lost 1-0 to defending champions Churchill Brothers on Wednesday. The victory over East Bengal, however, gave Churchill Brothers a breath of fresh air, as Mariano Dias' side are currently on 22 points from the equal number of games, and have two games more. Three more points will take them out of the relegation zone.
Salgaocar's opportunity of clinching the pole position in the I-League this season also came to a halt as they couldn't get past neighbours Sporting Clube de Goa in the 25th round encounter of the competition.
Second placed Salgaocar have 38 points with one game in hand while East Bengal are third on 37 points with two games to go.
Rangdajied United - Second Division League Champions last season - still don't have their future clear in the top flight as they are currently on 24 points with one game in hand. Only a win or a draw will ensure them safety from the relegation zone.
Mohammedan Sporting are currently the rock-bottom side in the table and more than anything, there is probably tough luck awaiting them at the end of the season. They need to register a victory to have any chance of staying in the competition next season.
