Lisbon:

Euro 2004 organisers said they've received more than half a million ticket requests so far. About 74,000 orders have been placed on the Internet and some 10,000 forms have been sent to the organisers by mail, it was announced yesterday. A batch of 450,000 tickets that was put on sale at the end of April was sold out in less than two months. Another batch will be on sale at the start of August. A further 1.2 million tickets will become available after the November 30 draw. About 40 per cent of the requests originated in Portugal but fans from countries such as England, Germany and Netherlands have also expressed a lot of interest, organisers said. Tickets for the 31 games are priced between 35 euros (USD 41) and 270 euros (USD 316). The championship, the biggest international sports event ever in Portugal, is being held at 10 stadiums in eight cities from June 12 to July 4. (AP)
