England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has been preparing his players ahead of their two forthcoming World Cup qualifiers. The qualifying matches against Northern Ireland will be played in Manchester on Saturday, while the one against Azerbaijan will be in Newcastle on March 30. Eriksson, who will be leading England out for the 50th time in Manchester, will be expected to guide England to six points in those two games but he is well aware how complacency can cause difficulties. Strong points England may have problems in certain positions, such as the left side of midfield, but one place where they are more or less well covered is in central defence. It was suggested to Eriksson that with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Sol Campbell, Ledley King and, eventually, Jonathan Woodgate (his long-term injury problems permitting) available to him, England had, maybe, the best centre-backs in the world.
