Mumbai:

Defending champions Dempo were held to a goalless draw by Mumbai FC at the Cooperage ground on Tuesday.

Dempo dominated the first half of the match with Brazilian midfielder Roberto Mendes Silva combining well with forward Ranty Martins and right winger Anthony Pereira.

Silva and Mboyo Iyomi came close to scoring a goal in the 13th minute and 38th minutes, respectively, but their efforts went in vain.

In the second half, Mumbai FC came back strongly and forward Abhishek Yadav came close to scoring in the 65th minute.

Yadav, tried to volley from his right, from just outside the box, but Dempo goalkeeper Satish Kumar dived to his left to block the shot.

Dempo also had a good chance in the second half when a header from Martins hit the post following a corner in the 80th minute.

Four yellow cards were shown in the match, Anees K (46th minute), James Dissiramah (58th minute), Yadav (90th minute) for Mumbai FC and John Dias (55th minute) for Dempo.

With this draw, Mumbai FC have 11 points from seven matches and Dempo have eight from same number of matches.

"At least we have got a point. Things are not going our way may be because too many matches have been played by the boys," Dempo coach Armando Colaco said after the match.

"Compared to the last match (against JCT) the performance of the boys was better this time around," Mumbai FC coach David Booth said.
