London:
Ten-man Chelsea lost two goalkeepers to head injuries in a 1-0 win against 10-man Reading in the Premier League, forcing defender John Terry to finish the match in goal.
Petr Cech was carried off on a stretcher soon after the game started when he was kneed in the head by Reading's Stephen Hunt on Saturday.
Replacement goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was taken off on a stretcher unconscious shortly before the game ended after a collision with Ibrahima Sonko.
"The Cech one, the challenge is a disgrace. He is lucky to still be alive. As for Carlo, it's a bad challenge, but there was no intent from the player," Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said.
Mourinho said Cudicini was knocked out because of the way he hit the ground, but accused Hunt of laughing after Cech was injured.
"It was unbelievable and players should respect each other more than that," Mourinho said.
Chelsea had scored when a free kick by Frank Lampard was deflected for a goal by Reading defender Ivar Ingimarsson in the 45th minute.
Chelsea played with 10 men from the 62nd minute when John Obi Mikel was sent off for a second yellow card. Reading finished the match a man down when Andre Bikey got a second caution in the 83rd.
Chelsea is behind Manchester United on goal difference atop the standings on 19 points.
Man U beat Wigan
Manchester United rallied to beat Wigan 3-1, with goals from Louis Saha, Nemanja Vidic and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Portsmouth is third, three points behind, after beating West Ham 2-0.
Arsenal moved up four places to fourth with 14 points after a 3-0 win over Watford. Arsenal, which started 17-year-old striker Theo Walcott for the first time, led on an own-goal from Jordan Stewart before Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Adebayor scored.
Also Saturday, it was: Aston Villa 1, Tottenham 1; Liverpool 1, Blackburn 1; Manchester City 0, Sheffield United 0; and Middlesbrough 2, Everton 1.
Wigan led Manchester United after a fifth-minute goal by defender Leighton Baines. However, Vidic scored his first goal for United with a header in the 62nd.
Four minutes later, Saha made it 2-1 after stretching to control a cross from Wayne Rooney and scoring as he fell to ground.
It was Rooney's eighth straight match without scoring, but he hit the crossbar and provided the assist for the winning goal.
"Wayne's second-half performance, and the whole 90 minutes, he was right back to his best," Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said.
"He and Saha were a real handful."
Solskjaer eluded two defenders to add the third - his fifth goal this season - in injury time.
Nwankwo Kanu hit his sixth goal of the season and substitute Andy Cole added the other for Portsmouth. It was West Ham's sixth consecutive defeat in all competitions without scoring a goal.
Missed penalty, own goal
Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel missed a penalty and scored an own goal but his team's unbeaten start to the season continued against Tottenham, which got its first point away from home.
Calum Davenport was sent off for his challenge on Gabriel Agbonlahor that led to the 73rd-minute penalty and Angel then put the ball into his own net three minutes later.
Villa only got the draw on an 81st-minute equalizer from Gareth Barry.
Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson - whose errors contributed to England's 2-0 European Championship qualifying loss to Croatia on Wednesday - was jeered by home fans.
Craig Bellamy scored in the 64th for Liverpool against his former club to Blackburn to salvage a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
Blackburn scored through Benni McCarthy to dent Liverpool's perfect home record.
"The goal we conceded was poor," Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez said. "But we have Craig Bellamy to thank for the equaliser. We can now stop talking about when he will score in the league for us, but now how many he will get."
Middlesbrough beat Everton 2-1 with goals from Mark Viduka and a penalty from Aiyegbeni Yakubu. Everton scored a late goal through Tim Cahill.
Cardiff extended its lead atop the Football League Championship with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. Cardiff has 26 points - six ahead of second-place Burnley, which beat Hull 2-0. (AP)
