Sao Paulo:
Rogerio Ceni became the most prolific goalscoring goalkeeper in the history of soccer on Sunday.
He tallied twice to improve his career total to 64 and pass Paraguayan Jose Luis Chilavert for the new record.
Ceni scored off a free kick in the 42nd minute and converted a penalty kick in the 61st in Sao Paulo's 2-2 draw against Cruzeiro in the Brazilian league.
He also stopped a 38th-minute penalty kick at Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte.
Ceni, Brazil's second-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup in Germany, came into the match tied with Chilavert, according to FIFA.
He converted a penalty for his 62nd goal in the first leg of the Copa
Libertadores semifinals against Mexico's Chivas Guadalajara on July 26.
Ceni made a blunder against Brazil's Internacional last week in the finals of the South American club championship and admitted he was greatly responsible for the team's loss.
Known as a free-kick specialist, 33-year-old Ceni was voted the most valuable player when Sao Paulo won FIFA's Club World Championship against Liverpool last year in Japan.
He was the third-choice goalkeeper for Brazil's 2002 World Cup winning squad in South Korea and Japan. (AP)
