Bolton:
Sunderland wasted the opportunity for a much-needed Premier League win on Monday, with Phil Babb scoring an own goal to allow Bolton to salvage a 1-1 draw.
Michael Gray scored for Sunderland in first half injury time, firing an Ivan Campo cross from long range past Bolton 'keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Sunderland looked to hold on for a win until Babb headed past goalkeeper Jurgen Macho for an own goal 10 minutes from time.
Macho had replaced regular goalkeeper Thomas Myhre, himself starting the match because of an injury to No.1 stopper Thomas Sorensen.
Myhre left the field in the 27th minute with a thigh strain and was followed ten minutes later by midfielder Claudio Reyna.
The US captain fell awkwardly and appeared to damage his left knee. He was carried off the pitch on a stretcher and replaced by Paul Thirlwell.
Reyna later left the ground on crutches with a protective cast on his leg.
It was the second game for new Sunderland manager Howard Wilkinson, but the Black Cats remain second from the bottom with nine points from 11 games.
Bolton stays at the foot of the table, with eight points from 10 games. (AP)
