Bayern Munich says captain Philipp Lahm will be sidelined for up to three months with a broken right ankle.
The Bundesliga leader says Lahm was injured in training on Tuesday. He will have an operation.
Lahm, who has switched from fullback to midfielder, joins a long list of injured players at Bayern: Javi Martinez, David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro and the two backup goalkeepers, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina.
Bastian Schweinsteiger has returned to training.
Lahm stepped down as Germany captain after winning the World Cup in Brazil in July.
