Al Karama beat Saba Battery

Abdul Kader Refai scored in the 30th minute to give Al Karama a 1-0 victory over Saba Battery and the quarterfinal berth in the Asian Champions League.

Abdul Kader Refai scored in the 30th minute to give Al Karama a 1-0 victory over Saba Battery and the quarterfinal berth in the Asian Champions League from Group C on Wednesday. Refai converted a free kick to make Al Karama the first Syrian side to reach the knockout stage of the continent's premier club competition. Tens of thousands of people then poured into the streets to celebrate the victory with fire crackers and waving flags. Al Karama finished atop Group C with 12 points, passing Iran's Saba Battery, which finished second with 10. (AP)
