Argentina defender Marcos Rojo will be suspended for his country's World Cup quarterfinal on Saturday after picking up a second yellow card in the last 16 win over Switzerland. (All Fixtures)

He was booked in the 90th minute for bringing down Switzerland's Ricardo Rodriguez to halt a counter-attack. The 24-year-old Sporting Lisbon full back picked up a first warning in Argentina's Group G match against Bosnia. (Messi to the rescue!)

He has been a key part of what has appeared a suspect defence but also scored the winning goal in the 3-2 group win over Nigeria.

Under FIFA rules, any two yellow cards between the groups and the quarterfinals lead to an immediate one match suspension.

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella said Jose Maria Basanta, who came on in the first period of extra time against Switzerland, was Rojo's likely replacement.

"Most probably Basanta will play the next game," Sabella said. "Marcos does everything at a very high level but we also trust Basanta."
