According to a report in Yahoo Sport, the fans cleaned up all the garbage on their side of the stadium in spite of seeing Didier Drogba's men beat the Blue Samurais.
While it is customary in Japan to gather the litter after any sporting event, such a gesture will have come as a surprise to fans from other countries.
As the pictures spread on the internet, many took to twitter and praised the noble action of the spectators.
Japan are now placed third in Group C. They need to beat Greece and Colombia to enter the Round of 16.
