Roberto Martinez looks set to become the next manager of Everton.

The English Premier League club has called a news conference for 4 p.m. local time (1700 GMT) when it is expected that Martinez will be presented as the replacement for David Moyes, who is taking over from Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Martinez asked to leave Wigan after they were relegated from the Premier League last month, and was given permission to speak to Everton about filling its managerial vacancy.

Despite its relegation, Wigan earned plaudits for playing stylish football under Martinez in his four years in charge and won the FA Cup, its first major trophy, thanks to a surprise 1-0 win over Manchester City in the final in May.
