The Guardian reported on Monday that Arsenal will offer free tickets to its fans after the team's 2-8 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United a day earlier.
It is estimated that close to three thousand Arsenal supporters registered their presence at the Old Trafford only for the team to go down in a humiliating manner. The defeat was the worst for the club since 1896.
To make up for the on-field debacle, the club issued a statement saying that it wanted to recognize the effort made by fans to support the team. "Sunday's result was obviously disappointing for everyone connected with the club. Our traveling fans were magnificent throughout and we want to recognise their fantastic support. We will be writing to them shortly with the details."
Team manager Arsene Wenger also issued an apology to fans after the match. "The fans do not want to see their team like that. We can only apologise and come back in our strength and desire in the next game," the report mentioned above, quoted him as saying.
