Ollie Pope slams unbeaten century as England reach 209/3 at the close of play on Day 2 at Headingley. The hosts trail the visitors by 262 runs with Pope (100*) and Harry Brook (0*) on the crease heading into Day 3. Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler for India as he picked all three wickets in the innings so far. Brook got a massive repreive after he mistimed a shot in the final over, only for the umpire to penalise Bumrah for overstepping.

What a let off for Brook and England! Siraj takes an excellent catch after Brook mistimes his pull. However, India's joy is shortlived as Bumrah has been penalised for overstepping. Will this come back to haunt India?

Bumrah strikes again! He gets Root for the 10th time in Test cricket and with minutes remaining for Stumps. What a time to strike. Excellent catch from Karun at first slip. The pressure will now be on the new batter.

Ninth Test hundred for Pope and his second in as many Tests. Gets a bit lucky as the inside edge could've easily gone on to hit the stumps. Instead, it went to deep fine leg, enough time for him to celebrate in joy.

Pope moves to 90 with that boundary! Pitched short and wide of leg, Pope helps it over leg slip and almost goes over the ropes. One bounce and into the hands of a spectator. 10 runs away from what would be a ninth Test century.

Root plays this late, gets enough elevation to pull it over the slip cordon. Short of a length ball outside off and Root rubs more salt in Krishna's wounds. England march on.

No luck for Siraj and Krishna! India's no. 2 and no. 3 struggling to pick wickets, despite bowling well in this spell. This makes Bumrah's role even more crucial. However, he can't bowl all the overs. Gill has gone to Shardul now

Jasprit Bumrah (147) now has the most number of wickets by an Asian bowler in SENA Countries. He surpassed Wasim Akram (146) with Duckett's scalp. The likes of Anil Kumble (141), Ishant Sharma (130), and Mohammed Shami (123) complete the top five.

A 103-run partnership between Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope means England head into Lunch on Day 2 at 107/1 against India in Leeds. Duckett unbeaten on 53 while Pope also batting on 48. For India, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley in the first over, before Duckett and Pope frustrated the Indian bowlers. England take this session as well.

First signs of spin as Gill gives the ball to Jaddu! Again, not long to go before Tea. A wicket here would be massive for India at this point. We might also see Shardul bowling from the other end after this over

Pope survives! Siraj was absolutely sure that was an LBW. After a discussion between Pant and Gill, India decide to take the review. The ball is clipping top of middle on umpire's call. Siraj with a wry smile on his face

Bumrah was having a chat with Prasidh Krishna ahead of his over. PK's body language seems to be down. Runs are coming thick and fast for England. A wicket here would be huge for India at this point

India's fielding has been poor so far! Three dropped catches and now a fumble from Bumrah allows Pope to collect a four. Prasidh Krishna has struggled in his three overs so far, conceding run-a-ball.

Bumrah strikes! That ball was almost unplayable. Crawley is a goner. He was cramped for room. He tried to flick it towards the leg as it was too straight, until it moved away from him. Gets a thick edge that flies to first slip. Karun Nair doesn't disappoint

England are up and away! Crawley gets a thick inside edge that lands short of Shubmal Gill at third slip. He manages to get a hand to it but can't stop it from going to a boundary. What a ball that was from Bumrah

Covers are being rolled away. Hover has also been removed. We have a new restart time, which is just four minutes (7:25 PM IST) from now. England openers Duckett and Crawley are making their way into the middle. 

The work has started to get the covers off. I can see on the television that only the hover is in place to keep the pitch under protection

Hardly any umbrellas up in the stands. England will be at a disadvantage when the play resumes. Conditions will be firmly against them. The sky looks dark and cloudy. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and Sai Sudharsan are playing keepy uppies with Harshit Rana, Abhimanyu Easwaran by the boundary.

Cheteshwar Pujara credited the conditions for India's sudden collapse. He feels that the bowling conditions will only get better. The covers are firmly in place now. The bowlers' run-ups have now been covered too

Bumrah was warming up before the Indian players got into a huddle. However, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett have been asked to walk back as the rain has gotten heavier. Rishabh Pant has a wry smile on his face as the covers are coming on for the first time in this match.

There is a bit of drizzle, but the main cover hasn't made it to the pitch yet. Maybe it's not that hard. More of a precautionary step. For the record, this was India's highest first innings total in an away Test since making 622/7 dec in the New Year's Test in Sydney in 2019. 

Four each for Tongue and Stokes as England make a remarkable recovery to bowl India out for 471. They were 430/3 at one stage. Shubman Gill's dismissal sparked a collapse, with India's batters falling like a pack of cards. Plenty of positives for India with Gill, Pant and Jaiswal all scoring tons.

Chopped on! Tongue gets his third as Jadeja inside edges one back onto his stumps. This has been an excellent recovery from England, led by Stokes and Tongue. India have now lost six wickets in the space of 39 runs.

Jadeja goes down the track! Slightly fuller from Carsem and Jadeja was on hands. He jumps out and bops it up and over mid-on. These are welcome runs for India. Jadeja needs to bat till the end. 500 seems like a distant dream for India.

Stokes to continue after lunch. Bumrah has joined Jadeja for the second session of the day. 500 plus on the agenda for Team India.

Ben Stokes strikes once again and takes his fourth wicket of the match. This time, he removes Shardul Thakur for 1. Shardul tries to play a shot but the ball hits the edge and goes straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. Seventh wicket gone for India. With this, the first session also comes to an end with India's score at 454/7. Ravindra Jadeja is standing unbeaten for India. 

OUT!!! England can finally take a sigh of relief as Josh Tongue dismisses Rishabh Pant for 134. Tongue traps Pant with his fiery pace and strikes directly onto his pads as the on-field umpire signals LBW out. Pant opts for a DRS review but the decision comes in the favour of England as they get the biggest breakthrough of the day. India lose their sixth wicket.

After losing two wickets in the quick succession, India have gone on the backfoot. Ravindra Jadeja joins hands with Rishabh Pant at the crease and the duo will now look to form a solid partnership for India. In the previous over of Ben Stokes, the duo score three runs. They now aim for some boundaries in the upcoming overs.

OUT!!! Ben Stokes strikes again for England and dismisses Karun Nair for duck. Nair, who was making his comeback in the Indian side after a hiatus of seven years, miserably fails to leave a mark and departs for duck. Nair tries to go for a big hit but Ollie Pope takes a stunning catch in the mid-on, leaving everyone stunned. Fifth wicket gone for India.

OHH NOOO!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, JAMIE SMITH??? In the previous over, Shoaib Bashir almost traps Rishabh Pant with his brilliant spin. Pant steps out but fails to play a shot as the ball goes straight to the wicketkeeper. However, wicketkeeper Jamie Smith fails to catch it properly and misses the opportunity of stumping Pant out. Interestingly, while playing a shot on this delivery, Pant also ends up throwing the bat away.

OUT!!! England finally get a breakthrough as spinner Shoaib Bashir provides them with the big wicket of Shubman Gill for 147. A flighted delivery, Gill steps out, gets big slog-flick as mid-wicket in open in the deep. But the ball goes off the inner half of the bat and flies straight to deep square leg. Gill misses out on his 150 but the entire crowd gets up to applaud him for his knock on his captaincy debut. Fourth wicket gone for India.

CENTURY!!!! Rishabh Pant hits a massive six off Shoaib Bashir and brings up his century in style. It is his seventh century in the Test format for India and he brings it up in 146 balls. After hitting the ton, Pant impresses everyone with his somersault celebration. It is worth noting that he did the same celebration after hitting a century in the IPL match, last month.

Shubman Gill is inching closer towards his 150 while Rishabh Pant is just one run shy of his century. Both the batters are comfortably dominating the English bowlers and not letting them get a sigh of relief. In the previous over of Ben Stokes, the duo score one run and aim for some boundaries in the upcoming overs.

WOAHH!!! Rishabh Pant switches on his fiery mode and unleashes his fury on spinner Shoaib Bashir. Skipper Ben Stokes changes strategy and brings in a spinner to get a wicket. However, the strategy backfires as Pant hits a boundary and a massive six as Bashir leaks 11 runs. With this, Pant goes past the 90-run mark and India complete 400 runs.

India get another big over Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill continue with their powerful hitting. This time, Chris Woakes faces the wrath as he ends up leaking nine runs. This includes two no-balls and a boundary from Gill. Terrific batting from the duo.

The England bowlers are desperately eyeing some wickets, in order to bounce back in the game against India. Currently, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are dominating the game with their powerful hitting. The duo is regularly stealing boundaries and keeping the momentum on India's side. In the previous over of Brydon Carse, the duo scores five runs.

The duo of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant is forming a terrific partnership and troubling the English bowlers. In the previous over of Brydon Carse, the duo scores six runs, which include a boundary from Pant. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter is currently batting at 74 and aiming to complete his hundred. Meanwhile, Gill aims to bring up his double ton.

With the terrific boundary on Chris Woakes' delivery, Shubman Gill achieves a historic feat. He completes his 132 runs, which now became his highest-ever score in his Test career. FOUR!!! Brilliant boundary from Shubman Gill on Chris Woakes. Overpitched on off-stump, juicy half-volley and Shubman Gill got forward and creamed it through mid-off, just beat Stokes to his right and it raced away.

The play on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test between India and England begins. For India, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have resumed the proceedings for India from 359/3. The duo will look to continue with their powerful stand from Day 1 and help India reach a strong total. On the other hand, Brydon Carse will be bowling the first over of the day for England. “This pitch had a bit of grass yesterday and that meant it came on to the bat better and seamed a bit. With the sun out, the grass is gone and that means the ball will come on to the bat even better. India will need to watch out against the second new ball, once they get through that, they can play their shots with freedom. If they manage that, India can look to post around 500 by Tea time and then look to declare” says Sunil Gavaskar.

According to AccuWeather, the morning is sunny and warm, with temperatures around 28-29 degree C and only a 25% chance of rain. However, conditions are set to change in the rest of the day. There are high chances of rain in the afternoon with the probability of precipitation at 86%. In total, there are 77% chances of rain in the second and third session of Day 2 of the first Test between India and England. A yellow warning has also been issued in Leeds. 

Jaiswal, after his 101 in the 1st innings, now has a tally of 813 in 10 innings against England in Tests. His average is 90.33. He has now gone past Don Bradman for the highest Test average against England (minimum 500 runs). Bradman scored 5028 runs in 63 Test innings against England at an average of 89.78. Jaiswal thus is the first batter with an average of over 90 against England.

Shubman Gill (127*) and Jaiswal (101) shared a 129-run partnership for a determined third wicket alliance that carried India to 221 from a slightly wobbly 92 for two after KL Rahul (42) and debutant B Sai Sudharsan (0) were dismissed in quick succession. Rishabh Pant (65*) was keeping vigil with Gill at close.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill announced their readiness to carry India's batting into the post Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma era, striking marvellous hundreds to guide the visitors to a dominant 359 for three against a faltering England on the first day of the opening Test in Leeds on Friday.
