An independent assessment of his action took place at the ICC's accredited testing centre in Brisbane. In a statement released by the ICC, reports revealed that Samuels' elbow extension exceeded 15 degrees while bowling and thus it stated that he employed an illegal action.ÂÂ
Samuels' action came under scrutiny during the Galle Test against Sri Lanka in November 2015 where match officials reported that his action was faulty. It was the third time in his career that he was reported with a suspect action.
He was originally suspended for bowling his faster deliveries in December 2013 when he was reported during the second Test against India in November.
Since this is Samuels' second suspension in the space of two years, he will be automatically banned from bowling for a period of 12 months. He can approach the ICC for a reassessment of his bowling action after the expiry of his one-year period.
