Watson wants to control on-field excitation in future

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who had a verbal spat with West Indian skipper Chris Gayle, has admitted that he went too far in celebrating the Caribbean's dismissal and needed to control his fervour in future.

Watson was fined 15 per cent of his match fee for his wild celebration on dismissing Gayle in the third Test at Perth.

"There is a line and you try not to cross it. It's an area where I'm continuing to develop as a player and a person as well," Watson was quoted as saying in Herald Sun.

"It's something I've got to work on. I am very passionate, but understand I have to channel that passion in the right way. What happened was raw emotion. I don't plan anything that comes out of me," he said.

Watson, however, was not ready to regret his over-the-top antics.

"I'm not embarrassed. I've looked at the footage -- obviously it doesn't look ideal, there's no doubt about that," Watson said.

"It's one of those things that happens on the cricket field when the game is on the line. Unfortunately I did celebrate a little bit too much that time," Watson added.

"People probably don't understand the full story as well. For me, it's nice to say the part of the story so people might understand why I celebrated the way I did," Watson said.

"He definitely let me know he was keen for me to come on and bowl leading up to that, so it was very nice to be able to get him out first ball. That was the catalyst for me celebrating the way I did," he added.

Meanwhile, Gayle who had earlier described the Australian as "soft" and someone who can be provoked easily, said Watson needed to move on.

"Did he say that? That's not what happened. Why is he still talking about it? Let's move on, the series is finished," Gayle said.
