Veteran batsman Virender Sehwag may not play the new domestic season for Delhi. According to a media report, the attacking opening batsman is considering offers from other states in order to allow a chance to Delhi youngsters.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Sehwag - who hit 568 runs at an average of 51.63 from eight matches in the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 season - has received offers from a number of state associations. While Sehwag himself has not commented yet on the matter, it is believed that he feels Delhi's aging batting line-up needs to throw lifelines to young talents and his move out may help in that direction.
At 36, Sehwag has been confined to batting in the domestic circuit. In fact, the veteran of 104 Tests and 251 ODIs last played for India in the Hyderabad Test against Australia in March, 2013. While some believe that he can still make a comeback if he fires in the domestic circuit, the batsman himself has repeatedly said he wants to just enjoy his game. "I have achieved all that I wanted to. Now, I just want to enjoy my batting," Sehwag had recently said.
Whether Delhi will miss him or will the team flourish courtesy the youngsters is something that remains to be seen - if Sehwag bids farewell. The batsman himself though seems intent on making the most of whatever cricket is left in him.
