He may have had an ordinary series on fast and bouncy pitches when India recently toured England but R Vinay Kumar justified selectors' decision to retain him in the side, on Tuesday when he ravaged Alastair Cook's side with 4 wickets.
Kumar bowled a tight line throughout England's innings after his team was asked to bowl first. Though it was Praveen Kumar who struck in the first over of the day, it was Vinay who kept the pressure up from the other end. He removed Craig Kieswetter (0) in his first over and returned to dislodge a well-set Jonathon Trott (34).
England managed to stitch partnerships together but Vinay was brought back into the attack and he delivered with the wickets of Tim Bresnan (12) and Graeme Swann (7). Bowling good-length deliveries paid rich dividends to the seamer on the Delhi track.
