Trescothick says no to England return

Former England opener Marcus Trescothick has refused to break out of retirement to play in the Twenty20 World Cup at home, citing risks to his health.

Trescothick, who ended his England career because of a depressive illness, disclosed he was approached by skipper Andrew Strauss to make an international comeback but he had to unwillingly reject the offer and ask the country's cricket to move on as his cricket playing days were behind him.

"I had no choice but to say no. Playing cricket for England was the great ambition of my life and, until I became ill, I loved everything about it, so not being able to do so now is a source of great regret," Trescothick said.

"But I know in my heart that the dangers to my health of committing myself to all that goes with international cricket off the field are just too great," he was quoted as saying by the 'Daily Telegraph'.

The 33-year-old player said he did not want to put his health and family at risk again and it was time to face reality.

"But the time truly has come for me to stop dreaming and face reality. As much as I'd love to have another bash for England, it isn't going to happen, at any level.

"I really hope everyone can accept that part of my story is over for good. It is time for me and for England to move on," he said.
