Mahela Jayawardene, with six double hundreds, shares a record for the most double centuries for Sri Lanka with Marvan Atapattu and Kumar Sangakkara.
Jayawardene's tally of 27 centuries is exceeded only by - Sachin Tendulkar (42), Ricky Ponting (38), Sunil Gavaskar (34), Brian Lara (34), Steve Waugh (32), Jacques Kallis (31), Matthew Hayden (30) and Don Bradman (29).
Jayawardene became the first Sri Lankan to post a double hundred in India - his second highest overseas, next only to the 240 against Pakistan at Karachi in February this year.

Patel Stadium, Motera, joining Rahul Dravid (222 vs New Zealand in 2003-04), Abraham de Villiers (217 not out for South Africa in 2007-08) and Sachin Tendulkar (217 vs New Zealand in 1999-00)
Mahela (1025), during the course of his double hundred (204 not out) has become the third player to make 1,000 runs this year, joining Samaraweera (1153) and Andrew Strauss (1071).
Mahela Jayawardene and Prasanna Jayawardene put on a 216-run stand (unbroken) for the sixth wicket without being dismissed, which is a Sri Lankan sixth-wicket partnership record in Tests apart from their highest in India for any wicket.
Sri Lanka (591/5) have posted the highest total at Motera, surpassing India's 583 for seven wickets declared against New Zealand in 1999-2000. The said total is also the highest by Sri Lanka against India in India
In the course of his outstanding knock, Mahela has set a record for the highest run-aggregate for Sri Lanka against India in Tests, surpassing Aravinda de Silva's run-aggregate of 1252 (ave.41.73) in 19 Tests. With five hundreds against India, he has emulated the feats of Aravinda de Silva.
Prasanna Jayawardene's unbeaten 84 is his highest innings against India apart from his second highest - the highest being 120 not out against Bangladesh at Colombo, SSC in June 2007.
Samaraweera has posted hsi 20th fifty - his second against India.
