Shane Warne has been fined $Aus 5,000 ($US 5,250) for breaching the code of behaviour in the Big Bash League by Cricket Australia (CA). Warne, who is the captain of the Melbourne Stars, played the semifinal against Perth Scorchers on Wednesday (January 16), with James Faulkner nominated captain so that Warne could dodge a penalty for slow over-rate.
Warne had previously been issued with a strike for a slow over rate violation and a second strike this season would have resulted in an automatic one-match suspension.
This is Warne's second penalty in a month, after earlier earning a ban and a $Aus 4,500 fine for a foul-mouthed rant against Marlon Samuels, the West Indies allrounder.
In a statement, CA said: "Warne was found guilty of breaching Rule 5: Laws of Cricket and Spirit of the Game by CA Commissioner Arthur Lodge".
Warne, 43, was not present at the hearing and was represented by Clint Cooper, the Melbourne Stars CEO, and Ben Robertson, the team manager.
Warne claimed 708 Test wickets in a celebrated career but has also courted controversy, notably when he was fined for accepting money from a bookmaker and sent home from the 2003 World Cup for taking a banned diuretic.
