Chennai:

Tamil Nadu wrapped up the last two wickets in 32 minutes on the fourth morning to pocket six points from their 104-run win in their Ranji Trophy Group 'B' encounter against Maharashtra at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday (November 20).

Resuming the day at 75 for 8 and needing a further 118 runs to force an improbable win, Maharashtra surrendered their last two wickets for the addition of just 13 runs in 8.5 overs on the last day to be bowled out for 88 in their second innings.

J Kaushik, the medium-pacer who opened the attack from the far end, kept the ball well outside the off-stump to deny any scoring opportunities for both Ankit Bhawne and Akshay Darekar. The batsmen tried to break the shackles against Malolan Rangarajan the offspinner, but weren't successful against his loopy off-breaks. Darekar perished going for an expansive drive over the vacant cover region, the thick outside edge being taken smartly by S Badrinath at second slip.

R Aushik Srinivas, the left-arm spinner who replaced Kaushik, struck in his second over when he lured Samad Fallah to go over mid-wicket, the uppish hit taken by Murali Vijay to signal the end. Both Aushik and Malolan finished with three wickets, while Bhawne remained unbeaten on 24.

Tamil Nadu, who now have seven points from three matches, will next play Delhi while Maharashtra, with just one point from their first two matches, will meet Vidarbha in the matches scheduled to commence on November 24.
