The Himachal Pradesh police has reportedly asked for Rs 70 lakh from Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association for providing security cover for the final match of the series being played between India and England. The final ODI will take place in Dharamsala on January 27.
According to Times of India, the 'bill' for the amount was presented to HPCA officials. The report quoted these officials as saying that they held meetings with police officials. "The state government should consider itself lucky for getting the opportunity to host this international game in our small hill state," said HPCA spokesperson Mohit Sood.
Sood, according to the same report, also said that they are considering the option of hiring a private security agency and will wait for a week for police to rollback their demand.
The HPCA Stadium here is considered as one of the most scenic locations to play cricket in and has hosted Indian Premier League matches as well as a match between India 'A' and Pakistan before. The match on January 27 though will be its first international fixture. While security remains an issue of paramount importance as is with cricket matches in any other part of the country or the world, an affirmative plan appears to be in the works.
The report says police officials refused to comment when contacted.
