Karachi:
PCB appointed Abdul Rauf, who worked with Inzamam-ul Haq-led Lahore Badshahs, was appointed for the one-day series against Australia in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
"No favours have been done to Rauf. He had a one-year contract with the ICL that ended last season and he got a NOC from them.
"We informed the ICC about this and they said they had no objections to Rauf being appointed to serve with the Pakistan team in the Australia series," a PCB official said.
Rauf's appointment came as a surprise to many since PCB did not allow even those umpires to stand in domestic matches who had supervised ICL matches.
Test umpire Shakeel Khan has still not been posted in domestic matches although the Sindh High Court has granted relief to the ICL players and officials to play in domestic cricket.
The ICL issue is due to be discussed at the ICC executive Board meeting in Dubai this weekend with the PCB seeking clarifications on status of its ICL players.
Sources close to the players said senior batsman Mohammad Yousuf and all-rounder Abdul Razzaq have requested for NOCs from the ICL but their request has been turned down.
"The league organisers have conveyed they plan to hold the next ICL event at the end of the year after reducing the budget for the tournament and ending contracts with half of the overseas signings. So for the moment they have told the Pakistani players to stay cool and wait for further developments," one source said.
The national selectors had named Abdul Razzaq, Rana Naved and Imran Nazir in the preliminary squad for the Twenty20 World Cup but later dropped them pending clearance from the ICC for them to play for their country again.
