Karachi:
"I am surprised at the statement he has made about the Pakistan cricket board because he was supposed to go to England and play in county cricket not land up in Mumbai in a dance show and also give irresponsible statements," former Test captain and coach Intikhab Alam said.
Alam, who is on the board's governing body, said the members would definitely look into this latest escapade by Shoaib and his statements there.
The fast bowler during his appearance in an Indian reality reportedly told the media that some people wanted to force their will and also wanted to save their egos and in the process they were not only hurting him but also the country and the Pakistan cricket. He also said that now he is back and he will play for Pakistan and god willing Pakistan will be back on the winning track.
"He could find himself in more trouble with his statement," a board official said but admitted that the fast bowler also was perhaps taking chances as he knew there would soon be changes in the cricket administration.
Akhtar was recently permitted by the Pakistan cricket Board to play for English county Surrey in some end of the season matches as they felt this would allow the pacer to test his fitness and bowling form.
But Shoaib had to return home from the Heathrow airport as he didn't have complete work permit documents last week. The pacer soon left for Surrey while stopping in India on the way to participate in a reality show, "Ek say barkar Ek where he paired up with Bollywood actress Esha Deol.
Former captain and legend, Javed Miandad said Shoaib's latest incident just highlighted the fact that the present board had failed to gain respect of the players who had no problems violating the code of conduct.
"I have been saying all along it is the duty of the board to ensure players remain disciplined but when the board is handled by undeserving people then problems will arise," Miandad said.
Another former captain, Wasim Akram is also hosting a reality show in India with former Miss world Susmita Sen.
Some players said they were not happy with the fact that senior cricketers were taking part in reality and dance shows.
"Cricketers are role models for the younger generation who look at them as athletes not dancers or entertainers," another former player said.
