A day after Harbhajan Singh's lawyers sent a legal notice to the Vijay Mallya-owned UB Spirits for an ad spoof, the liquor baron has reportedly made it clear that he will not take the commercial off air.
In the commercial, Bhajji's lawyers contend, Indian skipper MS Dhoni is shown "mocking" the India off-spinner.
The two players endorse rival liquor companies. The Bhajji ad for Royal Stag has the tag-line "Have I made it large?" The Dhoni ad for the Mallya-owned McDowell's has a Bhajji look-alike ask, "Have I made it large?", and Dhoni says, "Forget large, do something different." . The Harbhajan look-alike has also been shown working in a factory and getting slapped by his father.
According to newspaper reports, UB Group chairman Mallya said the liquor major is not looking to pull the controversial advertising campaign off air. Mallya also reportedly added that his lawyers would recommend the next course of action, but said the advertisement was not meant to attack Harbhajan.
He was quoted as saying that it was just a spoof between two brands. He reportedly pointed out that there were several TV programmes that spoofed politicians and asked what would happen if all of them started sending legal notices.
