The main suspect in the road rage incident involving former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has obtained a pre-arrest bail from a sessions court here today.
The sessions court granted pre-arrest bail to Major (retd) Amirul Rehman, who is said to be the unidentified person who first aimed a gun at Wasim and then fired a bullet at his car last Wednesday after a road accident near the National Stadium. (Akram's Car Attacked in Karachi)
According to a police official, the sessions court judge Nadeem Ahmed Khan granted pre-arrest bail court against a surety bond of Rs. 30,000 after the retired Major had submitted an application for interim bail.
The judge, however, said the bail has to be reconfirmed at the next hearing on August 20. (Akram Road Rage Case)
Senior police officials had expressed apprehension that the prime suspect in the road accident case would try to obtain pre-arrest bail and then appear before the police to record his statement.
After retired Major's vehicle hit Wasim's Mercedes car, the star cricketer chased and blocked the other vehicle and that was when the firing incident happened.
Senior police officials confirmed on Sunday that they had arrested the man driving the car at the time of the incident and also recovered the vehicle, a Hondo Civic.
Altaf Ahmed, who was driving the car, has told the police that the man who fired on Wasim's car was one Aamir Butt who had gone underground but on Monday it was revealed his name was Major (retired) Amirul Rehman.
The driver has held Rehman responsible for first pointing a gun at Wasim and then firing at his Mercedes car after the accident on Karsaz road near the National Stadium.
Altaf has confirmed their car slightly hit Wasim's vehicle and the cricketer signaled them to stop. But Hasan, who was in the back seat, forced him to drive on after which Wasim chased them and blocked their way.
