Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sakshi celebrate five years of their marriage on Saturday, July 4, 2015. It has been exactly half-a-decade since India's most successful captain tied the knot with Sakshi, who was studying hotel management in Kolkata.
The wedding in itself was very low-key on July 4, 2010. The information was closely guarded and the occasion failed to garner as much news-space as Suresh Raina's wedding earlier in the year. Sakshi, who has been a regular feature, cheering Team India and Chennai Super Kings, has brought plenty of luck to the wicketkeeper batsman from Jharkhand. (Dhoni Tested Pink Ball at MCG)
Soon after they got married, Dhoni took the Super Kings to South Africa and became the first Indian captain to lift the Champions League Twenty. Less than seven months thereafter, Dhoni led his team to World Cup triumph at home. In 2013, the maverick batsman held aloft the Champions Trophy, becoming the only captain to have won all three ICC tournaments. (MS Dhoni Rules Out ODI Retirement)
Sakshi Singh Rawat, whose family hails from Uttarakhand has known Dhoni for several years now. The two had met at school in the latter's hometown in Ranchi. The pair were blessed with a daughter Ziva on February 6, 2015 when Dhoni was in Australia preparing for the ICC World Cup. India were on a sensational run in the tournament and were only stopped on their tracks by the eventual champions Australia in the semifinal. (Dhoni Tweets First Picture of Ziva)
Plenty has changed over the last few years for Dhoni. He has come under increasing criticism for the team's poor performances overseas - he responded by quitting Test cricket in the midst of the four-match series Down Under. However, the 33-year-old continues to remain a darling of the Indian fans, with his pretty wife Sakshi leading the cheers in all his matches.
