Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs
That concludes the proceedings for Super Sunday, and we thoroughly enjoyed both the games. On Monday, Kolkata will be facing Rajasthan at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) in an attempt to revive their campaign. You can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his knock of 99 from just 57 balls. Says that he feels good that his knock has ended up in a winning cause. Adds that when you have the backing of the support staff, it gets a bit easier. Tells that he doesn't believe in form as you start every new inning from zero. Shares that he enjoys playing against pace bowlers. Mentions that there is a lot of thought process going into every game and he prepares well. Talking about batting with Devon Conway, Gaikwad replies that he told the Kiwi batter to take his time as it was just his second game of the season. Further adds that this is his home ground and he exactly knew how the conditions will be heading into this game.
MS Dhoni, the winning captain of Chennai, says that it was a very good score on the board and it becomes slightly easy for the bowlers when this happens. Adds that they did nothing different and it is one of those coincidences where they got off to a good start with the bat and the bowlers bowled in good areas. Feels that the phase when the spinners bowled worked really well for them. Mentions that dew makes it tough and as a chasing team, if you start well, 200 is still chasable. Tells that they have had quite a few good batting shows this season and in the bowling part as well, they have conceded too many runs in 1-2 overs, costing them the games. Dhoni shares that he has always told his bowlers that it doesn't matter if they go for 4 sixes in an over as the remaining two balls in a high-scoring game can make the difference. Informs that Jadeja knew that he will be leading this season and had enough time to prepare. MS further says that in the first few games he was the caretaker, setting the field and making the changes and he wanted it to be a gradual change in the leadership. Also says that after a few games, he left it to Jadeja to decide on his field. MS opines that when you are the captain, your mind tends to work overtime and it affects your own game and that's what happened with Jadeja. Admits that they have been dropping a lot of catches and need to improve.
Mukesh Choudhary (4-0-46-4) says that he was looking to provide the breakthrough when he came back to bowl in the 6th over. Adds that he is always looking to take wickets in the Powerplay, which helps the spinners in the middle overs. Tells that they surely missed the experience of Dwayne Bravo and applauds him by saying that Bravo always encourages the young players in the team and guides them well. Talking about the last over, he says that the skipper asked him to keep things simple as Hyderabad needed way too many runs in the last over.
Kane Williamson, the skipper of Hyderabad, says that chasing above 200 is always a challenge but at the end of the day, Chennai played better than them. Adds that the pitch was a bit slower and they tried their best to adjust. Tells that losing Washington Sundar, during their bowling inning, was not a good thing for them. Mentions that they will take some positives from this game and move forward. Says that the tournament moves pretty quickly and they need to be looking ahead and not think much about what happened in the past games.
Stay tuned for the interviews...
Despite this win, Chennai would look to address a few areas. Their fielding was abysmal as they dropped multiple catches and this is one aspect MS Dhoni talked about as well at the toss. The bowling too in the Powerplay wasn't on the money and towards the end, they leaked far too many boundary balls.
In pursuit, Hyderabad got off to a flying start with Abhishek Sharma looking in the mood. He played some extraordinary shots and also got a life. Sharma though failed to make much use of it and eventually fell. Chennai were under pressure initially but they picked two wickets off the final two deliveries of the Powerplay to wrestle the control back in their favour. After that, the Chennai bowlers bowled with discipline and the scoreboard pressure got the better of the Hyderabad batters. Nicholas Pooran tried his best towards the end but he was left with an impossible task to achieve. Mukesh Choudhary picked a 4-wicket haul and stood out once again.
Summarizing this match, Chennai planned their batting innings nicely. Their openers sized up the conditions in the Powerplay with their watchful approach and then went bonkers. Ruturaj Gaikwad was in his elements, stroking 99, and along with Devon Conway, he raised a record opening stand for Chennai in the League. They didn't get the desired finish but any score above 200 was always going to be handy.
MS Dhoni is back at the helm, and Chennai are back to winning ways - That's the storyline and headline of the evening! A very disciplined bowling show coupled with a clinical batting effort, and here they are, achieving a commanding victory over one of the strong teams this season.

Ravindra Jadeja To Kane Williamson
Flatter and quicker, outside off. Kane looks to cut but he misses.
Strategic break! What a scintillating Powerplay! Hyderabad started strongly but in the last few overs, we witnessed a few mishits and that's mainly due to the slow nature of this pitch. The ball is gripping and stroke-making against an old ball is not going to be easy. The Orange Brigade has lost two of their in-form batters this season off consecutive deliveries and it will have to reassess the situation. Aiden Markram has joined his skipper in the middle. Also, Ravindra Jadeja is ready to bowl after the break.

Mukesh Choudhary To Rahul Tripathi OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Two in two for Mukesh and he is absolutely pumped with that! It is Tripathi who goes back without scoring. This is a short ball, just outside off. Tripathi hangs back and looks to ramp it over the short third man fielder. But he doesn't get enough elevation on his shot and ends up hitting it straight to Simarjeet Singh inside the ring. He takes a sitter. Chennai are right back in this contest. Hyderabad are 58/2 at the end of the Powerplay.
Rahul Tripathi is in next. 145 needed off 85 balls.
