New Delhi:
Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, who led the Indian team to the World Cup victory in 1983, is now playing another innings not with the bat and ball but with a battalion of the Territorial Army.
The 50-year old cricketer, who joined the force as Lt. Col in September last year, shared his experience after going through a two-day rigorous drill, which included weapons training and obstacle crossing.
"It's like a dream coming true. Every youth has a dream of joining the Army. But I never thought that I could be part of it," confessed the legend after concluding the session on Friday.
The former cricketing giant also said that both on field activities were enjoyable in their own right.
"It is the greatest experience, I would say. Yes, playing for India is always... one can't compare it. But I think, coming here, this experience I will never forget till I die. It is the most beautiful experience, he added.
Kapil was also full of praise for the discipline of the army and said it was something which even sportsmen could imbibe.
"I am feeling very happy to learn so many things from them. The most important is I think discipline, which is necessary for a sportsman too. Looking at the army's discipline, I regret why I've not started playing cricket now." he said.
