Karachi:

Celebration for the World Twenty20 victory is in full swing in Pakistan, but national team coach Intikhab Alam on Monday advised his cricketers to switch their focus onto the Sri Lanka tour commencing on June 27.

Alam who was also the manager when Pakistan clinched the 1992 World Cup under the leadership of Imran Khan, said this is the high time that cricketers turn their focus onto the upcoming series in Sri Lanka as now they have to live upto the expectation of the country.

"I am confident they will manage to switch to the Test mode quickly and comfortably because more responsibilities and pressures are now on us to do well in Sri Lanka," he said.

Pakistan is in celebration mood as Karachi reverberated with fireworks and people thronged onto streets to celebrate the national team's victory in the showpiece event, a rare moment of joy for Pakistani citizens amid continuous violence.

"There is not much time because we will be leaving for Sri Lanka three days after reaching home. So I want the players to get required rest before starting preparation for the coming series," Alam, also a former captain, said.

Pakistan will play three Test matches before taking on the islanders in a five-match ODI series and a Twenty20 match. The squad is expected to be announced soon.

The country is also preparing to award a grand welcome to the heroes when they return tomorrow morning with thousands expected to turn up at the Lahore and Karachi airports to greet their heroes.

Alam described Pakistan's victory as sweet and memorable, given the tough time people on the country are facing.

"I am happy that the team clicked in their last few matches which were do or die encounters for us. All the players contributed brilliantly," he said.
