Virat Kohli is a class player whose form has compelled the world of cricket to stand and applaud him. On day two of the Indian Premier League 2014 (Thursday) however, it was Kohli's turn to stand and applaud the knock played by Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Yuvraj Singh whose unbeaten 52 destroyed Delhi Daredevils by 8 wickets. Chasing 146, RCB batting was powered by Yuvraj who came in to bat at No. 4 and quickly overtook skipper Kohli to complete a power-packed fifty off 28 deliveries. That he was bought for a massive sum of INR 14 crores in the auctions earlier this year, suddenly seemed justifiable. "Yuvraj is a match-winner. It was a joy to watch him bat at the other end," said Kohli in the post match ceremony. (All the pics from the match)
While Kohli's unbeaten 49 - in an 84-run 3rd wicket stand - was exceptional as well, it was the sheer aggression of Yuvraj which sent fans in Abu Dhabi into jubilant 'fits' of celebrations. Kohli had already said that "Yuvraj is the X factor in the RCB side" ahead of Wednesday's game and it was for all to see.
The veteran batsman - who hit two fours and three sixes against Delhi, was recently criticised for his slow knock in the title clash of World T20 against Sri Lanka. A few disgruntled fans threw stones at his house in Chandigarh. While Yuvraj received support from various sections including the cricketing and Bollywood fraternity, his knock of 52* though showed that at no point may he may be taken as someone who is past his prime and into the dusk of his career.
